ANGEL PARK - MOUNTAIN COURSE

Angel Park has won numerous awards and is considered by many to be the most complete golf facility in the
Vegas Valley. Besides the Arnold Palmer designed Palm and Mountain 18-hole championship layouts, Angel
Park boasts an unique 18-hole putting course (Seventh Heaven), a beautiful 12 hole par three called "Cloud
Nine" (9 holes are lit for night play), and a complete practice facility with driving range and putting/chipping
greens. Individual and group lessons are available on property by PGA staffed professionals.
Located near Summerlin just minutes from downtown and the Vegas Strip, and across the street from the
gorgeous JW Marriott Golf Resort and Spa, Angel Park provides golfers all the amenities one would expect from
a first class facility. The spacious clubhouse features an ample pro shop, with premium clubs, men's and
women's attire and golf accessories. Beautiful banquet and outing facilities compliment a fine restaurant and
lounge, with an outdoor patio that affords great golf course views. While staying at the Marriott, we visited the
comfortable lounge at Angel Park several times for casual meals, and can attest to the fine quality of cuisine
available. With numerous mounted televisions and full bar service, this is an ideal place for a pre or post round meal or beverage. (The Thai Chicken Salad is highly recommended!)
In our book, Angel Park is a fine representative of Vegas Golf. Variety in the designs, wonderful conditioning,
great practice facilities and clubhouse, spectacular views and quality service - add up to make this an enjoyable
day on the links. Folks here truly want to make you feel at home, and the rates are incredibly competitive. Their
attention to detail and committment to providing a high quality experience is evident by the fact that the greens
on the Mountain Course have been completely renovated, and the same procedure was in place for the Palm
Course and Cloud Nine during the summer of 2003. Looking for a place to practice on the day of a late arrival,
for a quick round on the day of departure, or for an alternative to the glitz or glitter one evening? The Cloud Nine
and Putting Course (also lit for night play) along with the practice range are open for extended hours, which vary
seasonally. The range is also lit for evening practice (call for hours) and there are two putting greens near the clubhouse.
The Mountain Course takes advantage of the natural terrain requiring players to navigate between desert areas
and the rolling hills that flank each hole. The large, manicured green-side bunkers are formidable obstacles to
par. The fairways are finely conditioned and the putting surfaces are of medium speed with only mild undulations.
Four sets of tees measure 6722 (130 slope), 6223 (125 slope), 5718 (110 slope) and 5150 (114 slope) - and
play to a par 71 for men and 72 for women. The championship tees at 6223 will be the choice for most golfers,
and are quite playable with only one par 4 over 400 yards. 150 yard stakes are supplemented by 200 and 100
yards indicators in the middle of the fairways, and color coded flags provide pin placement information. Tee boxes also have measurements to the center of the greens.
The beginning hole presents a wide open fairway for the drive, but narrows on the approach to a raised putting
surface. Ditto for number two, which tightens about 140 away with a water hazard along the right side. This hole
is the number one handicap. The third has more room than appears off the tee, as the fairway widens to the right
about 150 out. The putting complex includes formidable bunkering short and right of the green. A huge waste
area and a double tiered putting surface (pay attention to the pin placement) are the only obstacles to a low
number on the par 3 fourth, which precedes another score-able hole, the 398 yard (from professional tees) par 4
fifth. The simple par three 6th features a lone, deep green side trap, and is followed by a short par four with a
narrow fairway that drops off into a desert ravine along the right side. This five hole stretch (3 through 7) is the
easiest of the layout. Number 8 invites a tee shot near the 150 yard marker between two fairway bunkers. Those
landing in this area will have an easy approach on the longest par 4 on the course (444 yards). A water hazard left comes into play off the tee and on the approach on the finishing ninth.
There is a desert ravine on the right that crosses the fairway about 90 yards out on the par 4 tenth. The putting
surface sits on a plateau with a grass swale and bunker in front, making this a tough approach. The beautiful par
three 11th is target golf - presenting a shot that is all carry over a ravine, with ample room for error left. The 12th
is open, with plenty of room left. Take an extra club as the second shot plays uphill. A tee shot hugging the tree
line left will result in great positioning on 13, which doglegs uphill to the left. Aim at the 150 and avoid the deep
green-side sand trap and 14 is a score-able hole. A simple, well bunkered and scenic par three precedes a par
four that appears more daunting than it actually plays. The fairway provides ample room near the 150, and tee
shots hit long to the left will have an easy wedge/short iron to the green. The desert area on the right crosses the
fairway past the fairway bunker about 250 yards from the green on the challenging par 5 seventeenth. The carry
over this ravine plays to a narrow fairway which turns to the left. A second shot near the 150 stake will leave an
easy approach. The 150 stake is again a great target on 18. It is possible to drive it through the fairway and into the water hazard along the right.
The Mountain Course, like the Palm - is a very playable layout for all levels of golfers. The forced carries are
pretty reasonable, and with smart play good numbers can be posted here. As evidenced in these photos, the
