SKY MOUNTAIN GOLF CLUB (Hurricane Utah-near St George) 435-635-7888
Las Vegas-Utah golf course review
From the clubhouse at Sky Mountain gazing towards the driving range - one gets an impression that a good drive will disappear off the face of the earth ... this may be perhaps the
most spectacular view from a driving range in the west. Sky Mountain Golf Course has been around for ages - but over the course of five or six years I have particularly noticed a
marked improvement in conditioning. On our late October visit, the course was in excellent shape from tee to green.
Owned by the city of Hurricane (about 20 minutes or so highway driving from St George), sky Mountain is situated between Zion National Park and the Pine Valley Mountain range -
meaning there are spectacular vistas at every turn. This is truly one of the most picturesque locations in the Western United States. The topography is quite rolling, but golfers will
find that most of the playing surfaces are fairly level, making this an excellent experience for avid golfers and high handicappers alike.
The small greens are usually raised and challenge golfers to hit soft high arcing approaches that will hold. The fairways are often wide with significant landing zones, hampered
insignificantly by the 13 sand bunkers that are situated about the course. Water hazards come into play on 4 holes as well. There are several gorgeous holes, with the long par
three 12th being our favorite. The course is traditionally of the shorter variety, demanding skillful shot placement off the tee.
There are 3 sets of tee boxes which play to distances and slopes measuring 6392 yards/ 131 slope, 6014 yards/123 slope, and 5044 yards with a slope of 114 from the front tees.
There are 150 yard markers on the cart paths and rocks on the sides of all par fours and fives at 150 yards out. Sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the green, and color
coded flags indicate the day's front, middle or back hole locations.
On property is a clubhouse with patio, prop shop and snack area serving beverages and hot/cold sandwiches. There is a practice green and a grass range that faces a red rock
mountain - affording a great backdrop, especially at sunrise and sunset. This is a wonderful golf experience and one that is highly recommended by twoguyswhogolf - a great
value for the area! For more info, visit our page for the property with direct link to their website by clicking here.
